The Value of Education

I would first like to say what an honor it is to be standing up her today. Education is not only a right but an essential for all kids in the world today. Kids who are educated today are tomorrow’s future. The doctor you have to see next week, or the teacher you send you kids off to, could be one of the kids in today’s society but we will never know because of many limitations on education. In my homeland of Pakistan, I was shot in the face by the Taliban, as you all probably know by now. If that Taliban who shot me cared about Education, he could have been steered down a less violent path. I believe that anybody, anybody in the world could amount to something, it’s just a matter of education and the ambitions of that person. If they want to be a doctor let them! If they want to be a veterinarian let them! If they want to be a pilot, let them! In Pakistan that’s not the case. The culture makes it that boys are the only ones who are allowed to go to school while girls have to stay home and cook and clean.  This is not only unfair, it’s cruel to the many girls like me who want to make something of their life. For this reason I encourage all you parents out there to talk to your children about the importance of education. If they don’t see the point of school yet, sit with them and talk to the about the importance of a good education. I guarantee that if they accept education, they will accomplish their dreams in the workforce. Education is the greatest thing anyone can get and it comes at the cost of $0; cherish it before anything happens to you, like me. I want to leave you with one final thing! Stick up for what you believe in and nothing can knock you down! Thank you!
